Fine Edgefield, South Carolina signed LM Dave Drake Six Gallon Food Storage Jar. Stoney Bluff site, 1850s time period. This is an amazing food jar with a very earthy brown rich glaze with an LM that is script signed and just fantastic with two slashes and five punctates. The jar is classic Dave Drake master potter’s hands and has an outstanding form with two lug lifter handles and flared pulled rim. The jar was discovered in a barn outside of Washington, Georgia many years ago and has been in a private collection until now. Folks these examples are getting very tough to find, especially fresh examples and one especially in really good condition. These are now referred to as stunning objects of art from the classic utilitarian stoneware of the American South. This jar has traces of food stored from many moons ago and has a rich important history, and life lessons if this jar could talk. This is a great signed jar with outstanding condition. Condition, has two insignificant rim chips, typical from age and use. NO cracks and NO Repairs.
