Southern Pottery & Folk Art Auction
Lot 33A:
Description
Scarce 1820s Washington County, Georgia Decorated Five Gallon Jar this is a fantastic early example of decorated Washington County pottery with double row swag decoration. This jar is also a desirable example since it is an early syrup jar with the wide mouth configuration and double strap handles that strongly point to Cogburn shop while they were in Washington County up until 1828 as then they are noted in west Alabama potting. Provenance: a fresh to the market example from an East Central Georgia private collection. Standing: 16 5/8" Tall
Condition: Condition: has a very old repair to a small section of the lip. See pictures, no other chips, cracks and other repairs present. This example will be difficult to upgrade from and is a Cagle Top Shelf Collector Grade Example.
