Description
Scarce Billy Merritt ( 1861-1929) Crawford Co. Georgia 8gal Jar, this is a fine example of southern pottery with this decorated double loop handle jar that is eight gallons. The jar has X decorations on the top shoulder, which is very scarce to find examples with decoration. The classic double loop handle has Billy Merritt’s upper and lower handle terminal attachments. The jar is very eye appealing with a rich earthy olivine alkaline glaze that is typical of Billy glazes. Unsigned example but no doubt Billy work. Again very sought after example of Crawford County Georgia. Condition, has had a handle that was broken off and restored with the original handle, No other chips, cracks or repairs. Fresh example from a Atlanta area collection. Standing 18 1/4" Tall
