Fine Southern Pottery & Folk Art Auction
Lot 114:
Description
Fine North Carolina Don Craig ( 1945-2015 ) Four Gallon Face Jug. Son of Famous southern master folk potter Burlon Craig (Late). Don carried the old two hundred year old tradition alive with his pottery making skills taught by his late father and it shows. This is one of the finest face vessel I have personally seen, form the form of the jug which is outstanding, one points to the classic Catawba Valley wavey line decoration, also the cobalt glass runs, and again the form with stellar handles. This is a outstanding collector grade example on just the jug form. Now the facial features are just wow, highly detailed ears all the way to outstanding eyes, a strong nose, onto the lips with nice china plate teeth, that are accented with strong cobalt runs down the side of the vessel. Again a stellar example and is a top shelf collector grade example. Script signed Don Craig on the back, also signed and dated on bottom. A fresh example out of a North Carolina collection and is in Mint condition. If you collect southern folk pottery then this one and the next lot are just for you.
