Description
Great E.E. McPherson (1860-1942) Sand Mountain, Alabama. Five Gallon Syrup Jug from 1890-1913 time period. Fantastic five-gallon syrup jug with classic double McPherson handles, also bears a tooled wide mouth typical for syrup vessels. This piece has a modified lime alkaline glaze, and they were scratched 5 on the shoulder of the jug. These examples, especially large double handle syrup jugs, do not turn up and it’s highly coveted by collectors. This example will proudly display outstanding upon a shelf or corner cupboard of penny sand mountain Alabama collection poor yet southern stoneware collection. Provenance: Years ago, this example was in the Countryman & Forbes collection and was traded for many years ago, now (present day) from a private central Alabama collection. Standing: 19" Tall
Condition: Condition: Lower body crack Stabilization, no other chips or cracks or repairs present. Still a fantastic example of sand mountain for any collector.
