Southern Pottery & Folk Art Extravaganza
Lot 32:
Outstanding Edgefield, South Carolina Dave Drake LM Signed Jar Signed LM Aug 1, 1855 Six Gallon in size. This is simply an amazing alkaline glaze with stellar eye appeal and strong penmanship. This Dave Drake pot truly has it all, size, glaze, form, signature and did I mention glaze, This glaze was only thought to be in the wash or dipping stage, but with this, one lip chip tells us the dots are a mineral in the clay. This example was discovered in Jackson County, Georgia in a barn in 2010 and Cagle Auction sold this same jar in 2011. This is just an incredible example. Strong writing (penmanship). Classic lug handles with rolled rim and form. This jar is in great condition with No Repairs. Light chips on rim, base under lug handles from age and use. All typical from use and age. Has a few firing lines and these are not hairlines (jar rings true), but from intense heat and also a rock towards lower base causes these lines. If you ever wanted a signed example, then this one is for you. Also has slashes and punctates. Signed LM Aug, 1 . 1855 These are truly investment/collector grade examples and note worthy of any museum collections. Standing: 14 1/2" Tall
Condition: This jar is in great condition with No Repairs. Light chips on rim, base under lug handles from age and use. All typical from use and age. Has a few firing lines and these are not hairlines, jar rings true, from intense heat and also a rock towards lower base causes these lines.
