Southern Pottery & Folk Art Extravaganza
Lot 40:
Stunning Edgefield, SC Landrum One Gallon Jug, 1850s. Slave-made at the Landrum shop with classic form and correct handle. The jug has a glassy fluid modified lime alkaline glaze, with high feldspathic content, and a large X scratched into the shoulder. Also one punctate under base neck for one gallon capacity. The jug tooled mouth and fine loop handle, classic of the Landrum shop potters. Pieces in this caliber are getting very difficult to find due to collectors buying them up and also pieces going into museums. This is a stellar example and will be hard to upgrade from. Condition is excellent with one insignificant glaze flake on the top of the lip. No cracks or repairs. Standing 10 3/8" Tall
