Southern Pottery & Folk Art Auction
Lot 42A:
Fine example of an 1840s Edgefield, South Carolina Pitcher strongly attributed to Edward Stone (1817-1865) while in Edgefield South Carolina. This pitcher has a rich earthy dark alkaline glaze and the rare classic form with long tapering handle with a tooled rim edge, bulbous base that tapers upward. Very tough example to acquire as pitchers are one of the rarest forms to find due to most being damaged from normal every day usage. This one is an outstanding example with very little damage, three insignificant rim chips, typical from age and use. No cracks or repairs. Fresh from a Texas collection. Standing
Condition: This one is a outstanding example with very little damage, three insignificant rim chips, typical from age and use. No cracks or repairs.
