Fine early 1840s Dave Drake (1800- After 1870) Slave-Made Edgefield, South Carolina Three Gallon Jar. Classic Dave jar from the master potter’s hands with his never changing style of lug handles to the bulbous form and tooled rim. This is an early example with an iron wash glaze and is a great piece for any collector. Condition, minor glaze flakes around the rim. Has a drying – fire line at base, please note this is not a hairline, holds hot water and rings true, jar was painted red years ago, minor traces of red paint still present. No repairs. Fresh example and standing 13 5/8" Tall
