Southern Pottery & Folk Art Auction
Lot 59:
Significant Washington County, Georgia Four Gallon Storage Jar that has a strong attribution to Shimuel Timmerman (1824 SC – 1889 GA). Timmerman did pot in Washington County Georgia for short stint before moving onto Lanier County, Stockton Gerogia. One trait that sticks out is the high wall rim treatment that is found on many jars in Lanier County. Also the form of the jars in Lanier match this one. The thickness is almost identical, this being an early jar from Washington Co. There is a stamped "T" Washington Co. jar that is Timmerman, note the same "T" that is on the Washington jar is identical to ones found on Lanier Co. examples. This jar is unsigned and has a stunning glaze for Washington County pieces. Condition is near mint with two insignificant rim flakes, no hairlines or major chips. No repairs. Fresh from a Georgia collection. Standing 15" Tall
Condition: Condition is near mint with two insignificant rim flakes, no hairlines or major chips. No repairs.
