Stunning Beverly Buchanan (1940-2015) Painting. Great Shack With a Cow and Figures, with strong vivid colors and details. Signed lower right hand corner an dated 1991. Beverly was an African American artist known for sculptures, paintings and land art. Buchanan studied at the Arts Students League under Norman Lewis and Romare Bearden. Her accomplishments were many including Guggenheim Fellowship, National Endowment For The Arts, Pollock-Krasner Foundation award, Georgia Visual Art Honoree, and Women’s Caucus For Art Lifetime Achievement Award, just to name a few. Her works are owned by a long list of museums and private collectors today. Although academically trained, Buchanan utilized the tools often associated with the self-taught artist, such as inserted text, found objects, and loosely applied vibrant color, to create the visually rich textures of the humble, yet complex, structures in her drawings, sculptures, prints, and photographs.Fresh to the market example from an Athens Georgia collection.
