Significant James Chapman Tuttle (1772-1849) Windsor Chair 1795-1815 Stamped or impressed (I C TUTTLE SALEM) on base of chair. It is a fine Bowback period Windsor Chair in original surface and and is just outstanding. The chair has nine spindles and Tuttle is note worthy for making fan-back Windsor side chairs with eight spindles rather than the more common approach of using seven. Also noted in collection of Winterthur Museum. Height 38"
