Lot 24:
Description
Fine Dave " The Slave" Drake (1800-1870?) 2gal Edgefield Jar 1850s with two // marks. The jar is a outstanding size which is very scarce to find in two gallons, most of Dave’s works are way larger. Then the glaze, well its fantastic with a rich honey golden brown feldspar alkaline glaze that encases the jar. Tooled rim & graduated shoulder, also the lug lifter handles that are very smooth and again points to Daves hands. These are just some of the classic traits of Daves work during this iconic silent period time frame. This is a masterpiece of southern African American sprit in which his wares are truly turned to last the test of time. This is afresh example from a Atlanta area collection and will make a fine addition to any southern pottery collection or museum exhibit. Condition is outstanding, has a stellar museum quality rim restoration to rim flakes along the top of the rim, nothing major around 2 1/2" in length on the rim is restored. No other chips, cracks or repairs exist. Standing 10 1/4" Tall
