Description
Significant1870’s Jefferson Dorsey ( Born in 1838 in NC Died-? Potter in White Co. Georgi Census in 1860 ). This fine scarce one gallon fluid jug is a fantastic piece to the puzzle of southern stoneware, epically in the period during the Civil War. This one has a unique handle trait that is Dorsey and kicks to the left slightly sloping downward left and has the correct terminal ridges that taper to a rat tail pinch on lower terminal, also typical White County swamp clay which was very common of the Dorsey family to use during this time period. This makes the third example Cagle Auction has seen and the first one to be offered at auction. This piece is a Museum quality example and has a outstanding glaze, Mint condition with no cracks or chips & No repairs. Fresh from a North Georgia collection, and standing 11 1/2" Tall
