Description

Scarce 1820-30s Craven Family 2gal Jar. Talk about a rare example in early southern pottery, this is circa 1820-30s White County Georgia made by either John Vandevere Craven (1798-1877) born in North Carolina then moved to White Co. in 1825 or his son Isaac Newton Craven (1806-1869) born in North Carolina as well and both were potting in mossy creek mid 1820s. This flat top jar has two slashes in the top of the rim. This is a true North Georgia gem with a classic early rich forest green alkaline glaze and is in outstanding condition. Very few examples of this period stoneware turn up and when they do, they are almost broken beyond repair or restoration. This one is simply collector grade and outstanding. Condition is a 9 out of 10 scale, one minor insignificant flake under the rim. No cracks or repairs. Fresh from a North Georgia Collection. Simply find another example in this condition. Standing 11" Tall
