Description

Scarce 1820’s 1/2gal Craven Stoneware Jar This is a very scarce and early piece of White County history in southern stoneware. Highly sought after example. Again lets talk about another rare example in early southern pottery, this is circa 1820’s White County Georgia made by either John Vandevere Craven (1798-1877) born in North Carolina then moved to White Co. in 1825 or his son Isaac Newton Craven (1806-1869) born in North Carolina as well and both were potting in mossy creek mid 1820s. This half gallon jar has a early crude look with great early Georgia form. This jar shows a nice glaze with a earthy brown alkaline glaze. Jar is in overall nice condition with typical wear to the rim and has some stress lines, which is to be expected due to age and use. Jar has no repairs. Fresh from a North Georgia collection. Standing 9 3/4" Tall

Condition: Jar is in overall nice condition with typical wear to the rim and has some stress lines, which is to be expected due to age and use. Jar has no repairs.
