Description
Fine Catawba Valley North Carolina 5gal Jar strongly attributed to Thomas Ritchie (1825-1909) also noted the Ritchie family was one of the largest family of potters in the Catawba Valley area. Thomas was the most prolific of his family and made wares influenced by the nearby Seagles. Thomas is listed as potting in the 1850 census. This is a fine example of five gallon southern stoneware jar of the Catawba Valley region with a outstanding glaze typical of the time period, circa 1850-1870s. Also has two concentric lines and semi flat top rim. Condition is outstanding with two lug chips nothing major or distracting, from age and use. Fresh from a Madison Georgia collection. Standing 16" Tall
