Description
Scarce Rich Williams (African American ( 1847-1922 ) potter Four Gallon Churn. This great four gallon churn circa 1880s has a very dark runny alkaline glaze with his bell shaped form along with strong flared top and his classic lug handles. This is the first example offered in twenty years from Cagle Auction and is a very sharp example of his work. This is a true fine example of African American pottery from the south and is a must for any Southern Stoneware collector & would sit great in a museum collection as well, very important example. Condition is outstanding with two very minor glaze flakes on the rim, NO repairs or chips or cracks. Fresh example standing 18 1/4" Tall
