Fine Alabama 5gal Andrew "Jimmy" Rye JarBorn 1869-1952This is a outstanding five gallon double handled jar from Hamilton Alabama, the jar is circa 1900s and has a iron oxide glaze with a 5 scratched into the top shoulder. This jar shows what a master potter Jimmy was and was taught the craft by his father Andrew Jackson Rye. Note the finger prints on the base and the inside of the jar. The jar shows great form and eye appeal. These pots are very seldom seen to surface. The importance of these pieces are paramount to the history of Alabama pottery and collectors today. This jar is in excellent condition and will make a fine addition in any southern stoneware collection. No chips cracks or repairs.
