Lot 47:
Description
Scarce 1830s Crawford County, Georgia James Long (1785 MD -1869 GA) 1/2" Gal Jug Extremely fine example of early Crawford County 1830s time period with old world form That is documented to Jesse Bradford Long. These early examples just don’t turn up and this is the smallest example I have ever seen, I know of personally three larger 2 gallon and one 3-gallon examples, also one of the examples is stamped JL on the handle. This example here has a fluid lime alkaline glaze an outstanding form that makes for fantastic eye appeal. Also note the weight of this jug is extremely heavy for its size. Folks examples of this caliber in early examples of Crawford County do not surface, don’t miss this fantastic example. A Cagle top shelf example. Condition: insignificant rim edge Knicks no major chips, cracks or repairs present. Provenance: fresh to the market example from a 40 year plus private collection. Standing: 8 3/8′ Tall
