Scarce 1820s Washginton County, Georgia Decroated Five Gallon Jar this is a fantastic early example of decorated Washington County pottery with double row swag decoration. This jar is also a desirable example since it is an early syrup jar with the wide mouth configuration and double strap handles that strongly point to Cogburn shop while they were in Washington County up until 1828 as then they are noted in west Alabama potting. This example has a fantastic lime outline glaze with exceptional eye appeal form. Examples of this magnitude are extremely scarce and do not surface as most of them were damaged to. Condition: has a very old repair to a small section of the lip see pictures no other chips, cracks and other repairs present. This example will be difficult to upgrade from and is a Cagle Top Shelf Collector Grade Example. Provenance: a fresh to the market example from a East Central Georgia private collection.
