Fine and scarce Crawford County Georgia Signed "WB" Washington Becham (1835-1918) Double Handle Three Gallon Jug. Hands down one of the most sought-after forms from the Washington Becham site is this authentic, true double handle syrup jug, folks these examples are extremely scarce, and this is the first example Cagle auction has ever offered before. The double handle form is one of southern pottery’s most iconic and sought after forms especially when retaining both original handles and one handle is stamped WB and the other is unstamped. This example has been backlighted to ensure both handles are authentic/original. This example has the classic beehive form and a very nice earthy brown alkaline glaze, which gives this one really nice eye appeal. Condition this example has typical where chips and glaze flaking present. No cracks or repairs present. This example will make a fantastic addition to any southern pottery collection, especially due to the highly prized double-handled form. Provenance: from a private 40 plus year collection.
