Stunning Early Michael Gates Snake Face Jug. Talk about a stunning example of a fine southern folk pottery of western North Carolina. This jug has some of the most artistic work one could ever find on a face jug from the strong Edgefield style Face Jug in a large three gallon jug all the way to the detailed stippling on the front & back side of the face. Says MG at top and under the lips it reads Make an enemy of envy. The two snakes that come out of the mouth and eyes are just fantastic all the way to the china plate teeth. This is a early example of his works and these are highly sought after by folk pottery collectors. Signed M.A. Gates Elk Park NC This is a must for any southern folk collector due to scarcity.
