Description
7gal Sigend "ZTU" Zachary Taylor Ussery (1848-1913) Jug this is one impressive signed ZTU on the top shoulder under the mouth jug. This is from Randolph Co. Bacon Level Alabama and is a amazing piece of stoneware. The jug is a double handle sorghum jug with a true wide mouth for sorghum syrup. The jug has a great alkaline glaze with the classic fish tail terminals classic of Zachary handle traits. Also has three concentric lines close together and one about a inch below that. This is a monumental example and the second signed ZTU piece in 11 years. Condition is as follows – one handle has been restored with outstanding form and the mouth has had a restoration to half. Overall a very good quality job on the restoration. Still a strong example for any Alabama collection or southern. No cracks or chips. Circa 1880s Bacon Level AlabamaStanding 19 1/2" Tall
