Southern Pottery & Folk Art Extravaganza
Lot 34A:
Fine Edgefield SC Dave Drake (1800-1870s?) Five Gallon Food Storage Jar. This storage jar is a great example and has a rich olivine alkaline glaze that is seen in the Landrum family glazes. This jar would be around the 1840s time period. Classic Dave Drake form, pulled rim treatment and classic lug lifter handles. This jar also has an X on the top left shoulder. Condition, has lug handle glaze flakes that were restored to museum standards and is very hard to see, also a very tight stress line that was stabilized and again not restored, it’s still visible but stable. a few insignificant glaze flakes in the rim, also a small rim chip was restored. No other condition issues present. Fresh example from an Atlanta, Georgia collection. Was found in a barn in South Carolina, years ago. Outstanding.
