Southern Pottery & Folk Art Extravaganza
Lot 68:
Stellar Early 1850s Texas James Prothro Pitcher. Folks, this is a stellar piece of Texas stoneware, pitcher with a fine ash runny glaze and a small spot of rutile on the mid-section. The pitcher has a strong attribution to James Prothro, and the correct smooth blueish clay on the base which is typical from pieces found in east Texas. This is about as good as they come for early period Texas stoneware, simply find another one. One cannot bark at the condition, as this one is in near mint condition with only insignificant glaze flake on the spout and no other condition issues. Fresh example. Standing 10 1/4" Tall
