Stunning Elijah McPherson (1809SC- 1858AL) Randolph County Alabama Two Gallon Jug with a glaze, well it speaks for itself. This jug could very well be slave made, as Elijah owned six slaves in 1850’s and was listed as a farmer and a potter, Joey Brackner (Author-Historian) also notes he had six men working for him at the sum of 60.00 per month who made $2500 Dollars worth of crockery at that time. The jug would be from 1840-1850 time period. Hands down one of the finest examples in Alabama stoneware to cross the block in years with this quality of glaze. The jug is circa 1840-50s. Simply find another one I just don’t know if we will ever see another one with this caliber of glaze on it. The jug is in great condition with two, as seen in pictures glaze firing lines from the glaze getting too hot and the glaze being the most thickest in the dark area. The lines do not go through the jug to the inside, and I wouldn’t classify them as hairlines. Condition is very good and has no chips or repairs or hairlines. Again, simply find another one that is this caliber. Fresh example from a estate in North Georgia. Standing 15" Tall
Condition: Large crazing line from un controlled temperature in kiln, note this is not a hairline crack, only in the thick dark glaze.
