Rare Cogburn Shop Seale, Alabama Three Gallon Jar, Circa 18 This is one of the best three gallon jars from the Cogburn Shop in Seale Alabama. The Cogburn Family is well known in southern pottery dynasty that all stated with Cyrus Cogburn (1782-1855) Potting in the Edgefield District circa 1815 and then onto Washington Co. Georgia 1820s then onto Seale Alabama and finally in 1850 settling in Rusk Co. Texas in the Wilcox Clay deposits. This jar has great form and iron glaze with a chalky white color clay base. The jar is scratched 3 for gallon capacity and is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. Fresh example out of a private collection. Standing
