Circa 1880s scarce B.J. Semmes & Co Memphis TN. Two Gal Jug. Outstanding two-toned Bristol glaze body with an Albany slip glazed top. The jug has a strong stencil and the jug is in mint condition. Notice the Bristol glaze that crawls, this does not distract from the condition and is no shape or form considered damaged, Repair and crack free. B.J Semmes was selling whiskey in Memphis TN in 1860 when the civil war started. He enlisted in the Confederate army and was wounded in the Battle of Shiloh. He rose to the rank of major by the end of the war. He, his wife and sons continued making whiskey till his death in 1902. The business closed for good in 1915. Standing 13" T
