Southern Pottery & Folk Art Auction
Lot 58:
Description
Fantastic Double Stamped "JHL" John Henry Long (1877-?) Crawford County, Georgia One Gallon Jug. This jug has a great form and outstanding appeal with a beautiful maturely fired modified lime alkaline glaze. The handle has the classic JHL stamp on the handle and stamped at the base JHL, this example is the second known example with the stamp at the base. This puts this jug in a completely scarce category, this is the best-known example per condition. This example will fit well in any southern pottery collection and is in collector grade condition with only one insignificant glazed chip on the left side of the handle. Folks simply find another one, it’s a rare bird. Standing: 9 1/2 Tall
