Lot 15:
Description
Fine & Early 1850-60 Five Gallon Cleburne County Alabama Lug Handle Food Jar, in a rich dark earthy brown alkaline glaze with WAVY line decoration and multiple rows of concentric lines decoration starting at the lug handle attachments and going just below. As a scratch fancy 5 in the top of the concentric lane decoration. Overall, this example has exceptional eye appeal and form and more likely being a very early example also note the heavy falling of rutile on one of the lug handles edges. Folks, this example is fantastic and it’s sure to make a fine addition to your collection. In my opinion this is a very highly desirable example, and this is the only example I have seen like this. Provenance: Years ago, this example was in the Countryman & Forbes collection and was traded for many years ago, now (present day) from a private central Alabama collection. Condition: A few minor glazed flakes and very insignificant small chips around the rim and the edges of the lug handle. No cracks and one small B hole that was filled in see pictures, note it is left uncolored and not distracting at all. No other condition issues and repairs are present. Standing: 17 1/4" Tall
