Cleburne County Alabama Double Dipped Pitcher
Description
Stunning 1850-60’s Cleburne County Alabama Double Dipped Pitcher. That bears one of Alabama’s stoneware’s most iconic glazes, the "Double Dip Glaze" with strong heavy iron runs from the top of the pitcher down into the midsection this example is simply stunning folks. Cleburne county Alabama was the pottery epicenter in the 1850s through the 1880s and had many Potters from north Georgia migrate to the Oak Level Cleburne, county Alabama During these years. This example stands as the finest double dip pitcher Cagle auction has had the opportunity to offer, and this one is truly a "Cagle Top Shelf Example". One can’t stress the gravity of importance in this example of southern stoneware, particularly Alabama stoneware with this example, it’s truly an investment/ collector grade example and one that would fit very well in an institution. This example has been documented by Countrymen & Forbes many years ago and can be seen on their website (Clyburn County) for reference material. Provenance: from a private central Alabama collection. Condition: Rim chip restoration around the top of the rim of the pitcher that was done exceptionally well with museum quality color blending/ restoration work. The handle is all original and there are no other condition issues or repaired present. Folks simply find another one, truly a rare bird folks. Standing: 10 5/8" Tall
